Wink News segment update gator removal.
Mojito successfully received a full leg amputation from our favorite Vet Dr. Sieber at Barnside vet Clinic and is slowly recovering with the best care we can give! Thank you so much for all the support and well wishes and for those that donated to help with her surgery costs I am beyond grateful for the wonderfully thoughtful people!
What started as a normal day doing some house cleaning and painting, turned into a heartbreak when one of our young doelings was discovered floating in the pond. I jumped in and pulled her out not knowing if she had just recently slipped and could be saved. It was too late, our beloved Ridinghood was gone. face lacerations were assumed to be from snapping turtles.
2 days later when cleaning the goat yard there was a nearby splash and a loudly screaming Mojito was in the pond, I ran and reached for her collar to pull her out and realized an alligator was gnawing on her belly. she was rescued with a badly severed leg and lacerations to her stomach.
At this point we realized Ridinghood didnt slip in and a turtle didnt lacerate her face, she was pulled in by the face and explained why we hadnt heard her screaming. She never had a chance.
Mojito was rushed to the vet and it was confirmed her leg must me amputated. with it being the weekend monday was first chance. we spent the weekend deciding to let her go or turn her into a Tripod. So many encouraging people gave videos of other tripod goats thriving and with Mojitos attitude about the ordeal still being her normal sweet self we decided to do the Amputation. Shes recovering now and i will post some videos here as she recovers.
Shes lost her potential career as a show goat due to this as did Ridinghood. WE were excited to show both of them at upcoming shows but it was not meant to be.
FWC was called and didnt remove the gator until 4 days after the attack on Mojito. It was outside of the pond the morning of the 4th day after attack and nearly stepped on unknowingly. A 911 call finally got the trapper out and caught and removed a nearly 6' gator. We are very grateful no one else including the human kids that play in the yard were hurt!
